Flight issues for Labor Day travelers at STL Airport

ST. LOUIS – Travelers going through St. Louis-Lambert International Airport on Labor Day face headaches amidst a slew of delays and cancellations nationwide.

According to AAA, the agency expects 32% of Americans to travel for Labor Day weekend, whether it be by car or by plane.

After Friday, Labor Day is expected to be the second busiest travel day.

“This airport life has been crazy all weekend,” said traveler Leslie Lloyd. “I had a delay this morning, I was really supposed to be here at 8 this morning but it’s 12 o’clock now, I’m just getting home, so I’d say to anyone booking to understand that you may have a full day of travel and not exactly where you want to be.”

According to an airport spokesperson, this is the 20th week in a row the airport has seen 100,000

how Emirates is wooing luxury travelers

Dubai’s Emirates airline in August announced an investment of over $2 billion to improve its inflight customer experience, including cabin interior upgrades and new menus — with unlimited caviar.

The world’s biggest long-haul carrier will be retrofitting over 120 aircraft with new interiors, as well as dishing up menus with new vegan options and cinema snacks like popcorn, Emirates said in a statement.

Other new perks for the carrier’s first-class travelers include unlimited portions of Persian caviar, paired with Dom Perignon vintage champagne.

Those investments come just as Emirates posted a $1.1 billion loss for the year ended March 31.

“While others respond to industry pressures with cost cuts, Emirates is flying against the grain and investing to deliver ever better experiences to our customers,” said the president of Emirates airline, Tim Clark.

SINGAPORE — Singapore is set to allow non-fully vaccinated travelers to skip quarantine on arrival starting Monday, authorities announced Wednesday.

The country is also set to remove indoor mask requirements from Aug. 29, as it seeks to take another step toward living with Covid.

While the further easing of safety and border measures is a “significant milestone,” the country must still “be mentally prepared for any sudden change because we don’t know how this virus will mutate and what the next variant will look like,” said Singapore’s deputy prime minister Lawrence Wong, who is also co-chair of the Covid task force in Singapore.

Visitors who are not fully vaccinated will still be required to test negative for Covid within 2 days prior to their departure for Singapore. But

Japan eases covid test rule, but strict travel restrictions remain

Comment

TOKYO — Japan said Wednesday it would end a requirement for vaccinated travelers to have a coronavirus test to enter the country, a gradual step toward reviving a hard-hit tourism industry but that comes as other restrictions continue to deter visitors.

After enacting some of the strictest border measures during the pandemic, Japan has been gradually allowing nonresidents to visit. But tourists are still not allowed in unless they are a part of an authorized tour group, their every move watched closely by a licensed guide.

Many Asian countries continue to impose quarantine or testing rules for international arrivals, but Japan’s restrictions were out of step with others in the Group of Seven major economies. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Wednesday that Japan would continue to ease border control measures in phases, “to enable smooth entry into Japan in a similar manner to other G-7
